Ashtabula County issued the following announcement on Sept. 21.
The 2020 HHW collection event, which took place this past Saturday, boasted a record number of participants. In 2019, 163 households utilized this free collection event, which is made possible in part due to the $5 recycling parcel assessment placed on improved parcels in Ashtabula County.
This year’s event served 470 households. 324 of those surveyed responded they had never taken part in the event. In addition to the increased amount of participants, the amount/weight of material from each participant was also an estimated 30% higher. The vendor echoed the similarities in collection events across the state, most likely due to the climate of a successful real estate market, as well as the time the public may have spent at home due to the COVID pandemic.
The Solid Waste District would like to thank the public for the outstanding response and their willingness to participate even with above-average wait times, illustrating the need for collection events such as this. The District has already reached out to the vendor for ways to make this event even more efficient and successful next year.
Thank you again for doing your part to keep Ashtabula County beautiful!
