Members for Ashtabula County Boards and Committees Sought

City of Ashtabula issued the following announcement on Jan. 6.

The Ashtabula County Board of Commissioners is seeking interested parties to fill openings on several Boards and Committees. “The individual expertise and knowledge that board members share is invaluable. Serving on a board or committee is one of the most rewarding ways to give back to your community and support a cause that interests you”, said Board President J. P. Ducro IV.

 The following are brief descriptions of these boards:

NORTHEAST OHIO COMMUNITY ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM – ONE OPENING

The Northeast Ohio Community Alternative Program (NEOCAP) was established by the Common Pleas Judges of Portage, Geauga, Lake, Ashtabula and Trumbull counties in 1997 and serves as the Community Based Corrections Facility (CBCF). Ohio Revised Code Section 2301.51(E) provides that the Community Based Corrections Facility be governed by a Facility Governing Board to which the judicial advisory board of the CBCF shall appoint two-thirds of the members and the boards of county commissioners of the member counties of the CBCF shall appoint the remaining one-third of the members. In accordance with the Ohio Revised Code Section 2301.51(E), the combined Boards of Commissioners from the member counties appoint members.

CHILDREN SERVICES BOARD- ONE OPENING

Pursuant to ORC Section 5153.16, the Ashtabula County Children Services Board was created to provide for children who are in need of public care or protective services. Pursuant to ORC Section 5153.03, the Board of Commissioners is the appointing authority for the members of said Children Services Board with terms of the members are set at four (4) years.

MENTAL HEALTH AND RECOVERY SERVICES BOARD- ONE OPENING

In accordance with Ohio Revised Code Section 340.02 the Ashtabula County Mental Health & Recovery Services (MHRS) Board was established to provide for the development of comprehensive community mental health services and promote the delivery of high quality and cost-effective alcohol and drug addiction services. The board member terms are set at 4 years.

“Serving on a board allows you to engage in activities you are passionate about and to work with other professionals to discover the inner workings of an organization and improve its effectiveness for the common good of the community”, said Vice-President Casey Kozlowski. 

Commissioner Kathryn Whittington added, “Board service allows you to invest in your community, build a network with a common interest, gain a new skillset and grow as a leader, all while playing a crucial role in an organization by protecting its mission and overseeing its financial and legal well-being.” 

The openings above include vacant positions and positions with terms expiring soon. The Board is accepting applications from the public, as well as from current members seeking reappointment.
