From our brothers & sisters at Beachwood Fire

Fire 03

Chardon Fire Department issued the following announcement on Feb 11.

From our brothers & sisters at Beachwood Fire…

At approximately 1428 hrs the Beachwood Fire Department responded to an office building in our Commerce Park area for a reported fire. The Shift OIC quickly requested a MABAS box (which contacts multiple neighboring Fire Departments to assist in firefighting operations).

Thanks to quick actions of an occupant with the use of a fire extinguisher the fire was extinguished.  With residual smoke and heat still present fire crews ventilated the building and checked for any fire extension. Minor damage to the structure was reported.

The Fire Prevention bureau investigators examined the scene and determined the fire likely started from an overload electrical block.

The Beachwood Fire Department would like to remind all of our residents and business occupants that appliances and heaters must be plugged directly in to an outlet. The use of extension cords or strips is highly discouraged and should never be used with appliances.

Big thank you to our dispatch center for making sure all assisting agencies were quickly contacted but thankfully not needed.
