Enforcement

On May 11, 2022, the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, patrol and narcotics personnel, were conducting a targeted enforcement event on Madison Road; along the eastern portion of Geauga County.

On Madison Road near the Kinsman Road intersection, Deputies observed a Ford Mustang commit a traffic violation and a traffic stop was conducted to investigate the matter. While speaking with the operator of the vehicle, identified as John Smith, deputies observed numerous physical criminal indicators being displayed during the roadside interview. Due to the indicators, GCSO K9 Rotar was requested to assist with an exterior search of the vehicle. K9 Rotar arrived and conducted an open-air search of the Ford Mustang and alerted for a trained final response for narcotic odors.

During a search of the vehicle, it was learned that Smith attempted to destroy powder Cocaine roadside before speaking with deputies. At the conclusion of the search, deputies located a large amount of suspected powder Cocaine, Crystal Methamphetamine, a bulk number of unidentified pills, Criminal Tools commonly observed in Drug Trafficking investigations, Marijuana, and bulk US Currency.

Smith was taken into custody and formally charged with a violation of O.R.C. – 2925.11 – Possession of Drugs, a Felony of the 1st Degree. Additional criminal charges are forthcoming pending a presentation of the case to a Geauga County Grand Jury.

This is just another great example of area law enforcement working tirelessly to combat any and all criminal activity occurring within Geauga County.
