The Stark County Sheriff’s Office Announces Civil Education Series

(Stark County, Ohio) – The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the first class in a three-part civil education series related to Senate Bill 215.

Class attendees are reminded that they are not permitted to bring their personal firearms to any of the upcoming classes. Firearms will not be permitted on the premises.

The informative, hands-on learning opportunity is designed to offer education related to the new constitutional carry law that goes into effect in Ohio on June 13, 2022. Senate Bill 215 allows individuals to carry a concealed hand gun without a license in the state of Ohio.

CivilEd: Part I - Interactive Understanding of Ohio Constitutional Carry, will be held on Wednesday, June 22nd from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The course will engage attendees through an interactive presentation that enriches their understanding of the new law. Attendees will participate in a group-focused discussion that includes real-life scenarios they may encounter while practicing their constitutional carry right.

The first course will include:

• Question and answer-based presentations on the new law

• Group discussion regarding real-life scenarios

• Student-lead findings presentations

All attendees will also be provided gun locks and other safety materials at the conclusion of the class.

“Learning never stops,” explained Sheriff George T. Maier. “These classes are designed to ensure information and education is accessible to members of the community as it relates to their constitutional right. We are here to answer questions and offer resources so we can continue to keep everyone in Stark County safe.”

Two additional classes will be offered as part of this series: CivilEd: Part II - The Dos and Don’ts of Firearm Safe Handling & Storage on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and CivilEd: Part III – Interactive Firearm Scenario Simulation on August 17, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All courses are held at the Stark County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Training Center, 143 1st Street SE in Massillon.
