2022 Trail Horse Nature Challenge

Geauga Park District’s 2022 Trail Horse Nature Challenge once again confirmed that Northeast Ohio is one of the best places to be a trail horse owner! Thirty-two horses, 31 riders and 24 hardworking volunteers enjoyed a perfect summer day August 27 at The West Woods. Congratulations to Dawn Donich, first place adult. Dawn and her partner horse, Torque, with Maverick in tow, scored 110/110 on the challenges and 32/40 on the Nature identification. Sandy Pikturna on Wimsy was a very close second place. Joanne Walton on Rock N Wild, and Toni Lima on Bree, tied for third place adult. Josie Cooper, youth rider on Arwen, scored 106 for the challenges and 30 for the Nature identification, while Caleb Cantrell on Lilly was finished second-place in the youth rider category. Riders who placed were awarded Schneider’s Saddlery gift certificates complements of Geauga Park District. And once again, volunteers complemented the skilled teamwork of the horses and riders and the beautiful variety of horse breeds participating. Riders reportedly are already working on their trail skills and Nature knowledge in preparation for the 2023 challenge. Enjoy Nature throughout the seasons on your Geauga Park District trails! -Naturalist Dottie Drockton
