State Representative Steve Demetriou’s (R-Bainbridge Twp.) legislation honoring the lives of John P. Lennon and Dr. Steven Takacs has passed the Ohio House on Wednesday.
The legislation will establish two memorial highways within Geauga County. The John P. Lennon Memorial Highway will be designated on a portion of State Route 87 between Bundysburg Road and Madison Road, while the Dr. Steven Takacs Memorial Highway will be designated on a part of State Route 87 between State Route 44 and Sperry Road.
Mr. Lennon was the President of Abbott Valve and Fitting Company, known for his philanthropy and support of local police and fire departments, providing significant contributions to first responders. He passed away on February 24, 2024.
Dr. Takacs operated a family medical practice in Newbury Township for nearly 30 years, served as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, and was a community leader. He passed away from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in June of 2020.
“These two individuals were outstanding citizens that represented the county with integrity and deserved to be memorialized for the impact they had on many lives,” Demetriou said. “It was my privilege to bring this legislation to the Statehouse so we can honor these two important men.”
The legislation will now head to the Senate for further consideration.
