The Ohio Controlling Board has approved $4.5 million in funding to support the High School Tech Internship program, as announced by State Representative Sarah Fowler Arthur (R-Ashtabula). This initiative aims to provide high school students with practical experience in technology-related roles.

The program reimburses Ohio employers for hosting high school interns in tech-focused positions. It seeks to supply businesses with the necessary tech talent while offering students valuable early work experience.

“It is never too early to increase opportunities for students to gain hands-on employment experience,” said Fowler Arthur. “The tech industry is rapidly growing, and Ohio is continuing to do its part to create strong partnerships between future employees and employers, which will help our economy thrive.”

Students participating in the program are expected to perform duties similar to entry-level employees in areas such as software development, data management, cloud computing, IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and broadband/5G technologies.

The application period for becoming an intermediary through the High School Tech Internship program closes on October 4, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Selected intermediaries will manage the program regionally for internships during the summer of 2025.

Interested parties can apply for the 2025 High School Tech Internship Intermediary position by visiting Workforce.Ohio.gov/HSTI.
