House Bill 43 has been signed into law by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, providing Ashtabula Lakeside High School with a waiver on the required minimum instructional hours. The bill was promoted by State Representative Sarah Fowler Arthur following the collapse of the school's roof rendering the building unusable.

Representative Fowler Arthur expressed gratitude for the Governor's prompt action: “I appreciate the Governor’s swift consideration and approval of this legislation.” She highlighted that “this critical law will ensure high school seniors will be able to graduate on time and the school will remain eligible for full state funding during the upcoming school year.”

According to the new law, the Department of Education and Workforce is permitted to waive up to 24 hours out of the mandated 1,001 instructional hours for Ohio public schools.
