Cost of college went up for all students at Kent State University at Ashtabula

In-state tuition and fees rose 3 percent for 2018-19 at Kent State University at Ashtabula, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Ohio residents paid $5,834 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $170 more than the $5,664 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 145.7 percent more than residents this year, or $14,332. Their price tag grew 1 percent from $14,196 in 2017-18.

About 98 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Ohio residents. And about 2 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 91 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 153 students received grants or scholarships totaling $582,958 and 89 students took out student loans totaling more than $458,480.

Including all undergraduates (2,026), 699 students used grants or scholarships totaling $2.5 million, and 688 students took out $4.4 million in federal student loans.
