GRAND RIVER ACADEMY: GRA Preseason Training

Run

Grand River Academy issued the following announcement on Sept. 10.

As Fall Semester classes begin so does the beginning of Fall sports at Grand River Academy. GRA student-athletes participating in soccer and cross country have been competing with each other as part of GRA's preseason training program.

Head Boys Soccer Coach Frank Shreve has been impressed with each player's work ethic despite having to adjust training methods to fit COVID-19 safety guidelines. During this week of training, Coach Shreve has put an emphasis on increasing fitness levels, agility, and improving touch on the ball.

Last season was a historic one for the Eagles soccer team as they won their first ever conference championship in school history. Coach Shreve's goal this preseason is for each player to continue to develop their skills in preparation for future competition.

"I hope they are able to improve their skills, have a good time, and be ready to play the game whenever the time comes," Coach Shreve said.

Meanwhile, the cross country team is pounding the pavement and racking up miles around campus. Coach Katy Studer is excited to have the most preseason participants she has ever had for cross country and hopes everyone on the team from experienced runners to first-year team members become more fit athletes.

"I would like to see them improve fitness and for them to have the sense of achievement you get from working hard and seeing it pay off," Coach Studer said.

As part of the newly formed Eagles Sports and Performance Program (ESP), preseason training is sports specific with tailored program plans to meet the demands required for our student-athletes to achieve maximum success. To promote self-confidence within our students, GRA mandates all students participate in at least one interscholastic or intramural sport throughout the year.
