Chemistry Class Has Been Collecting Rainwater

Chemistry

The CP Chemistry class has been collecting rainwater for the College of Wooster's Chemistry department.   They were invited to work on a mystery lab designed by the COW chemistry research students.  SHS students were able to use an Infrared Spectroscope, a GC-MS ( gas chromatography and mass spectrometry instrument), UV-Vis Spectrometer, and NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer) in order to identify the unknown substance. The students were challenged to identify functional groups and analyze data in order to determine the mystery chemical.  After the time spent learning instrumentation, students were treated to lunch, and a campus tour.
