Fall concert brings Lakeland’s jazz orchestra and student group together for autumn celebration
The Lakeland Civic Jazz Orchestra and the Lakeland Jazz Impact student group are combining to present their first concert of the 2022-2023 season with “Autumn Serenade” Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, at 4 p.m. in the Dr. Wayne L. Rodehorst Performing Arts Center. The center is located on the first floor of the D-Building on the college’s campus, located at 7700 Clocktower Dr., Kirtland.
Concert tickets are available at the box office or online at lakelandcc.edu/arts. Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and veterans and $2 for students. Online purchasers should bring their order confirmation to show at the door.
Led by Lakeland Civic Jazz Orchestra director Demetrius Steinmetz and Lakeland Jazz Impact director Ed Michaels, the concert will highlight the music of jazz greats Dizzy Gillespie, Sammy Nestico, Thelonious Monk, Johnny Mercer and many more. The repertoire highlights classic jazz and blues pieces including “It Had To Be You,” “Hard Hearted Hannah (The Vamp of Savannah),” “Straight No Chaser” and “Manteca.”
ABOUT THE CIVIC MUSIC PROGRAM
Lakeland Community College provides community members the opportunity to express and advance their talents by performing in five music groups: the Lakeland Civic Band, the Lakeland Civic Chorus, the Lakeland Civic Flute Choir, the Lakeland Civic Jazz Orchestra and the Lakeland Civic Orchestra.?Additionally, the college offers talented high school students Jazz Impact, an all-star high school music group.
