SIGMA THETA TAU INDUCTS NEW MEMBERS
The Malone University chapter of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, Pi Chi, recently welcomed new members with excitement for their upcoming initiatives that are designed to enhance the professional experiences of nurse leaders in the Stark County region and beyond.
“It’s an exciting time to be a nurse within the Malone community and we are eager to retain active members following graduation so that we can make a difference in their professional lives,” said Renae (Rodocker) Snyder '98, '22, president-elect and recent Daisy Award winner.
Also recognized during the ceremony was John Bartlett ’13, the honor society’s 2022 recipient of the Award for Nursing Excellence. This award celebrates a nurse who has advanced scholarship, teaching, research, or service on behalf of their chapter. Bartlett served at Hartville Migrant Ministries and Open M Free Clinic, as well as Haven of Rest Ministries, Akron Children’s Hospital, and Malone.
“To have a servant’s heart is to be like Jesus, constantly looking for ways you can give to others,” said Snyder. “John proactively seeks out needs and provides help where and when he can. His character models Christ’s and his attitude inspires others to want to serve, too. “
Sigma Theta Tau membership is by invitation to baccalaureate and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and to nurse leaders who exhibit exceptional achievements in nursing.
Malone’s chapter, Pi Chi, aims to develop nurse leaders anywhere so that healthcare can be improved everywhere.
“International membership includes 135,000 members from more than 560 chapters in 100 countries,” said Snyder. “And because Malone’s nursing curriculum uniquely prepares our graduates to practice with Christ-like compassion, our membership contributes to the wider network of nursing in ways that are eternally significant.”
In addition to recognizing and honoring the academic achievements of Malone students, Pi Chi offers free professional development opportunities to those with membership, as well as free access to journals and publications so members can remain current with research and the fast-paced changes that occur in the field of healthcare.
“Our monthly virtual meetings, which make it possible for us to be together from across time zones, are great opportunities for us to support career connections and encourage one another in ongoing research pursuits or other professional development,” Snyder said. “We’ll also use this time to plan for upcoming events, like Pi on the Fly, or service projects for our communities, like completing 100 minutes of service to celebrate Founders Day in 2022 – 100 years of Sigma and their worthy mission!”
