State Representative Sarah Fowler Arthur (R-Ashtabula) announced today that the H2Ohio program is now available to producers in Ashtabula and Geauga counties. The program, which aims to work with farmers to implement best management practices on their land to prevent harmful algal blooms and phosphorus runoff, is now accepting enrollments until May 6 on a first-come, first-served basis.
"We are blessed to have an abundance of water in Ohio," expressed Fowler Arthur, highlighting the importance of water resources in the state. She further encouraged residents of Ashtabula and Geauga counties to participate in the H2Ohio program, stating, "I encourage those in Ashtabula and Geauga counties to take part in the H2Ohio program if they are interested."
Farmers interested in enrolling in the program are advised to reach out to their local Soil and Water Conservation District. To sign up, they will need to provide up-to-date soil tests, information on planned crops and rotations, yield goals, and planned fertilizer applications.
The H2Ohio program presents an opportunity for producers in Ashtabula and Geauga counties to contribute to the conservation of water resources and combat harmful environmental impacts in the region.
